CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!

You've no doubt seen the posters everywhere and you won't need reminding, Christmas is coming around quicker Santa goes down the chimney. But that does mean the wonderful Lights Switch On Event is happening very soon! Click the advert for further details.

All three of our courses that are currently running, that's Christmas Cookery, Potty About Pots and Cookery at BLPS for those who don't know, are now completely fully booked. WHAT'S ON......

With the Festive season fast approaching - here at Extended Services HQ we think it's the most magical time of the year. Just because the nights are drawing in and the weather is getting colder, we don't stop creating exciting opportunities for our friends.

Between now and Christmas we have an exciting Family Cookery Course at Brookhill Leys, a Christmas Cookery Course at Eastwood Comprehensive School, an adults only pottery course and the famous Christmas Lights Switch On event.

HALF-TERM UPDATE, 14/10/11:

Places are filling up fast for the free half-term programme being staged at Brookhill Leys later this month.

Both White Post Farm sessions are now completely FULL along with the 7-9 age group of Graffiti. Places with the DJ, Archery, Climbing Wall and remaining age groups of Graffiti are filling up fast. So I urge you to email or send your forms in ASAP to avoid missing out on your selected activity. I will continue to update this information on availability when activities are full.

FREE ACTIVITIES!

Just a gentle reminder about our free sessions starting on Tuesday between 10am and 4pm. These sessions will be running @ S.A.F.E. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout the summer break.

POLICE BEAT SURGERY!

Come and join two of our local beat officers in the comfort of the SAFE Centre. They will be joining us on Tuesday 9th February between 11am and 12pm. Click here for further information.

A special 'thank you' from the group to everybody who contributed to the success of the art exhibition. It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the variety of work created by students and local people.

ART EXHIBITION!

Our wonderful exhibition is well underway at the S.A.F.E. Centre and will be until the 15th July. You can come and see some of the wonderful work on display between 12pm and 6pm.

CARNIVAL PARADE!

The incredible parade where all our schools come together is back and takes place this Friday 15th July from 1pm.

EXTENDED SERVICES RECEIVE FUNDING

Thanks for former Mayor of Eastwood, Keith Longdon - the Eastwood Family of Schools have received £500 towards the purchase of cooking equipment. The equipment will be used across all of the schools in cooking sessions and courses delivered by Extended Services. Photo coming soon.

EASTWOOD ARTS FESTIVAL:

March 2011:

ZUMBA @ EASTWOOD SPORTS CENTRE

Following extensive research we are delighted to announce that Zumba sessions will commence from Tuesday 3rd May 2011. The sessions will be from 6pm til 7pm at Eastwood Sports Centre and will cost £3.50 per session and run for 10 weeks.

Sessions are open to those aged 14 and above and if you book six weeks in advance you will recieve the 7th FREE!

S.A.F.E. GIVEN CHARITY STATUS:

Following a lengthy process we are delighted to confirm that S.A.F.E. have been awarded Charity Status by the Charity Commission. This will mean that the young people's group will be in a stronger position to apply for further funding to provide activities and services within their Eastwood centre. Following a Zumba taster session delivered during February half-term, we are currently assessing interest in whether or not people within the community would access it.

The sessions would potentially run for an hour on a Tuesday evening at Eastwood Comprehensive School and would cost in the region of £3.50 per session.

February 2011:

SILVER SURFERS UPDATE:

Unfortunately due to Nottinghamshire County Council removing ALL school internet access across the county this week for maintenance, the Silver Surfers course has had to be postponed. It is something that is beyond our control but we apologise for any inconvenience.

We are therefore hoping to re-schedule it for the Easter holidays. We will of course inform people through the usual outlets.

In the meantime, we still have an exciting array of activities this week including Zumba, Belly Dancing, Just Dance and family poetry, as well as card making and an IT Workshop - for all your computer queries and support.

BRAND NEW!! Half-Term Programme:

This half-term will see the S.A.F.E. Centre throw open it's doors and welcome in the whole community. Activities such as Zumba, Just Dance, Poetry Workshop and Silver Surfers will be available to everyone and most of all, they will be FREE.

Cooking for Easter:

A fantastic free, cooking programme for families is now available. Extended Services and Eastwood Comprehensive School have teamed up with learning partner Castle College to launch the pre-Easter course.

Come and learn new cookery skills and how to adapt fun and healthy recipes for Easter. The course will begin on Thursday March 3rd and run for six weeks between 6:30pm and 8:30pm at the School on Mansfield Road.

Newsletter Out Today!

Extended Services have today released the Winter 2010 newsletter. The publication is packed with information about forthcoming activities and how you can get involved.

They will go out to all students within the Eastwood Family of Schools over the next couple of days, so keep an eye out. It can be downloaded here.

November 2010:

Christmas Lights Switch on Event!

Believe it or not 'that time of year' is almost upon us once again. And in true Christmas style the Eastwood lights switch on is back bigger and better than ever before.

Over the last few months the steering group have been working away at trying to secure the funding to make it happen and we're delighted to announce the following!

Tuesday 23rd November - 6pm til 8:30pm. Including live music, fireworks display, street entertainment, lantern parade, charity and craft stalls and fun fair rides. Of couse Santa and his elves will be in attendance!

The S.A.F.E. Centre in Eastwood will be focal point during the evening with Gallery 37 operating jewellery workshops. There will also be performances by ECDC - Eastwood Comprehensive School's highly acclaimed dance company. Nottingham Wildcats Cheerleaders will also be performing outside the centre.

October 2010:

S.A.F.E. Group Finish Second

Nominated as a finalist in the Young People of the Year Award, the group of Eastwood students attended the presentation ceremony at Nottingham University this evening backed by the Head Teacher, Chair of Governors and former Mayor.

The students missed out on first place but came second - an achievement they should be immensely proud of.

Half-Term Activities:

Eastwood Sports Centre are running their half-term activities this October. Please visit www.broxtowe.gov.uk/leisure for more information.

Eastwood Open Access Play Project will once again run Coronation Park on the following dates:

Monday 25th, Tuesday 26th, Wednesday 27th 10:30am til 1pm and Thursday 28th 10:15am til 2pm.

September 2010:

Spanish Cookery Course Update

Some of you may remember that in the Summer edition of WOW! there was a small piece about Spanish Cookery sessions.

Well the six-week course begins on Thursday evening at Eastwood Comprehensive School and runs for six sessions. Three this side of half-term and three the other side.

The course is running from 6pm til 8pm in Room P2. We have been overwhelmed by the interest from people and understandably the course is now full. However, based on the success we would look to run it again.

Summer Holiday In Full Swing!

A variety of activities are well underway throughout Eastwood for the Young People of the area and there is still plenty to do.

The Eastwood Comprehensive Summer School is getting ready for action. The event which runs for the last two weeks of the break between 9am and 5pm will give students the chance to take part in a range of activities from music and dance to sport and drama.

Those who attend will also be able to visit the National Media Museum in Bradford on the first Wednesday. There are strictly limited places costing just £10! Free Play Days!

Broxtowe Borough Council have organised an exciting FREE Fun Day at Hall Park. The huge event will take place on Thursday 12th August between 12pm and 4pm.

 

July 2010:

50% Discount for PGA Golf Academy

Budding young golfers can now benefit from a huge discount ahead of next weeks three-day Golf Academy running at Eastwood Comprehensive School.

Originally £15 per day - as an incredible launch offer you can now access the course, delivered by a fully trained and qualified PGA tutor for just £7.50 each day, or £20 for three days.

PGA Golf Academy at Eastwood Comprehensive

A fantastic new opportunity to take part in a 3-day coaching programme will be open to young people in Eastwood this summer.

Coached by Fundsport's qualified PGA instructor, the advanced sessions will teach students a variety of techniques. The sessions will be £7.50 per day or £20 for all three days which run from Tuesday 27th to Thursday 29th July 2010.

Those who attend will recieve goodies and be able to win prizes throughout the week. Stay tuned for more information.

 

June 2010: S.A.F.E. Project Goes Live

The worst kept secret in Eastwood for many years has finally been made public. The community centre formed by a group of Eastwood students is now open to the public. Operating on a limited timetable initially, the project's base will see a variety of different services use the facility. But one thing remains a fixture, the centre is for the use of the young people of Eastwood.

Castle College have announced the following FREE taster sessions for families and adults at the centre over the next few weeks:

The Extended Services Change 4 Life Roadshow will take place during the Family Fun Day on Saturday 10th July at Coronation Park between 1pm and 5pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
